Ultimate Fail and Big Catch Up

I think I can honestly say that my family might be the worst bloggers in the history of ever.

I created this blog a year ago. 12 months! 365 days! 8760 hours! 525600 minutes! Okay you get it. It's a fairly decent amount of time. And a fairly decent amount of things happened which we have thus far made absolutely no effort to record.

I shall fix that now...or at least try to. Not living at home really puts you out of the loop, so if I miss some important things or fudge on details don't blame me too much.

Matt - I felt weird typing out my dad's name just so you all know. Dad has been working on his PhD for almost 5 years now and the end is in sight. He's done really fantastic work on his dissertation and should be able to finish up in about a year.  That means my dad, my mom, and I will all graduate from college in the same year. Cool! But more to follow on that. Another significant thing that has happened to mi padre is that he had Lasik surgery. Yes, the man who could not stand contacts let lasers be shot into his eyes. My dad is brave! And he looks fantastic without glasses as my mom will happily and readily testify. He says that the world is literally larger because he doesn't have glasses frames blocking any of the view. Haha! He's actually right!

Kandi - Mum is so awesome. She is working really hard on school, going full-time online even during the summer. She is working on a Family, Consumers, Human Development program so that she can go on to get a master's degree and be a therapist. I think this is perfect for her because if you know my mom at all you know she gives top-notch advice and is always right. Really, she is. She earns amazing grades and is the best student you can imagine AND she received a scholarship because she wrote the most terrific essay. Go mom! I swear, we have to do the "My mom is a smart mom" dance every time I go home. :) My mom is continuing in her battle with braces - she goes everywhere with a toothbrush and looks forward to getting them off. She is still serving on the Willow Park Zoo Board and is still a nursery leader. So basically what this equates to is that on top of being a full-time student and a full-time mom she somehow manages to serve in her community and church. Superwoman? I think so. My mom is my hero.

Mariah...me - Ummm. Summing up my year is much harder for me to do, but my OCD tendencies are forcing me to keep going through our family in order rather than skip myself and come back. Sigh. Here's what I got: I finished my second year at BYU (Hallelujah!) and have just one more to go (Praise be!). I moved out of on-campus housing at the beginning of last summer (around the time this blog was created tee hee) and found a few really great friends here at my complex. I still work as an accounting clerk. I am still majoring in History with an English minor. However, I did finally figure out how I am going to make history work in a career. I am going to be a librarian (and not a frumpy librarian either, haha.) Getting ready to apply to graduate school is stressful but it's fun going through the anxiety with my mom. I acted on an impulse and took Welsh classes this year (Welsh as in the language of Wales...the place not the animals. I know you all were thinking it.) It's a useless but fun language and as a result I have received a scholarship that is paying me to live in Wales for two months this summer!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! No, one exclamation point would not have been enough for that sentence.

Mallory - Mallory started college this year. My baby sister is so grown up. Sniff, sniff. Haha just kidding. But Mallory did become a grownup this year. She moved out into an old frat house that had been converted into girls apartments and lives with 14 other girls. And we thought six was too many. She really likes it there at "The Beach House" (not really on a beach but whatever). Mally is loving her single life and plays constantly, well constantly meaning in between school (sometimes instead of) and working at a local Logan ice cream parlor. I believe ice cream needs a hyphen but the Oxford English Dictionary says otherwise. (This comment was for you Mally.)

Micaela - Micaela is pretty much rocking high school. She took two AP classes this year, English and U.S. History, was a supporting role in the musical, played the lead in another school theatrical production, participated in Model UN, went to every single dance, and I don't know what else. But it's a lot. She is busy all the time, and my mom says they hardly see her at home anymore. On top of all that Micaela started dating and driving this year. Yes, she is a heartbreaker. Maybe I'll put pictures up...we'll see how ridiculously long I can make this post.

Monique - Monique is a teenage fashionista. Big hair, big lips, and lots of makeup...she always looks super fabulous. She made it through 8th grade alive (well almost...BYU gets out early and I forget that the other poor suckers have to go to school through June 2nd). She TAed for a crazy librarian and took a guitar class. Monique is still taking piano lessons and she plays beautifully now. We can always tell when something is weighing on her mind because she will sit at the piano and play for hours at a time. Monique also participated in the Cache Children's Choir again this year. The choir was a big time commitment (for Monique and for her chauffeur aka my mom) but Monique is such a talented alto I think it was worth it. Looking over this paragraph I think it can be summed up by saying that Monique is a musical genius as well as stinking good-looking.

Chad - Oh Chad. Pre-pubescent Chad. He is the funniest and yet the most annoying of all of us. Sometimes I forget that he is eleven now and a big kid (literally...he is tall with humongous feet and hands), but then he pulls out the best jokes and wittiest comments and surprises us all. Chad is the best kind of big brother to Indianna and a good friend. He is very interested in sports especially soccer and basketball. He is also doing really well in school. I can't believe this is his last year of elementary school.

Indianna - Nine years old and unbelievably quirky. She is in third maybe fourth grade (see this is what I mean about not knowing things because you don't live at home) and really likes school, except math but that is slowly coming. She read all seven of the Harry Potter books this past summer to get ready for the movie and that started a great reading habit. Indi wants to switch the order of her name to Mildred Indianna. I vote yes on that. Random side note: Indi is a giant. She is the tallest except one boy in her entire grade, but she is a year younger than everyone.

So there we are. Now I'll put some pictures up.

Basically I think Chad is really, really ridiculously good-looking.

I think this photo sums up Mallory right now rather well.

So this picture is a few years old but it's the only one I could find of my dad without his glasses so you could see what he looks like after Lasik. Plus my mom looks like the bomb.com.
I don't know why Micaela is so glammed up (she looks fantastic, eh?) but it was for some school thing or another.

Mo doesn't go quite this crazy everyday but it's a good example of what she is capable of. I'm pretty sure she is wearing a Bump-it. Baha. Also, did I mention she has Bieber Fever?

And here is Indi chasing a goat at our family reunion. I just think this picture is funny.

Finally, me and cousin at our other cousin's wedding.

I feel like this post needs some closure, so I'll end it the traditional way.

The End.
